What are you listening to?

Welcome to GO FOR A RUN, the newsletter that’ll never judge you (for wearing headphones on a run).

I’m no purist.

To be honest, purists annoy me.

You can run outside OR on a treadmill.

You can run barefoot OR in whatever shoes you like

You can run in the city, the woods, the mountains… wherever you want.

I’m even okay if you choose not to run if you get your exercise somehow else. All good with me.

And if you want to listen to something while running, go ahead and do so.

Dare I say I even disagree with Goggins on this one?

“What are you gonna do when the music stops?”

Umm… go for a run.

Look, I often run with headphones.

  • I like music
  • I like podcasts
  • I like audiobooks

I also like time to think or zone out. Sometimes, I even run with a friend and talk with them. All of it is good.

Whatever makes exercise sustainable for you is the way to do it.

I like to mix it up.

I do have a favorite pair of running headphones.

I love my Shokz OpenRun Pros.

They are snug and comfy.

And they sit outside the ear, which makes them great for 2 reasons.

  1. Sweatiness/comfort: These are not sweaty, gross in-the-ear headphones. I had multiple ear infections from my AirPods a few years back—I know, too much information.
  2. Situational awareness: They are not the noise-canceling headphones you use to block out the world. You can hear everything going on… like other runners greeting you, cars honking at you, or bears chasing you.

So pick up a pair of the OpenRun Pros here and run however you like.

P.S.

Running OS reopens next week and we'll be introducing the new B.E.E.R. framework 🍻 to help you run more without pain.

What is the B.E.E.R. framework?

Stay tuned for the next email to find out.

Also, there's a kick-ass community and some sweet bonuses inside Running OS.

Welcome to GO FOR A RUN, the newsletter that helps you get lost... in a good way. Do you ever get tired of running the same routes every time you head out the door? Don’t get me wrong, I have a few favorite loops that I hit every week. It’s nice to go on autopilot and just enjoy the run, knowing exactly what’s coming around the corner. But sometimes, I want to see something new. There’s nothing better than finding fresh trails, stumbling upon an epic scenic overlook, or bouncing through some...

Welcome to GO FOR A RUN, the newsletter that keeps coming back. Last week, I had COVID... for the first time. It sucked. As I lay in bed for days, barely able to move, the thought of running made me even more sick to my stomach. But I survived, and as soon as I started to feel better, I began to think about my return to training. After a week of isolation in my bedroom, I was itching to get outside and hit the trails. I wanted to bust out of the gates at full speed. But that would be a big...

On October 14th and 15th of last year, I ran 100 miles. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
