Welcome to GO FOR A RUN, the newsletter that helps you get lost... in a good way.

Do you ever get tired of running the same routes every time you head out the door?

Don’t get me wrong, I have a few favorite loops that I hit every week.

It’s nice to go on autopilot and just enjoy the run, knowing exactly what’s coming around the corner.

But sometimes, I want to see something new.

There’s nothing better than finding fresh trails, stumbling upon an epic scenic overlook, or bouncing through some new woods.

Because the truth is, human beings are explorers.

We crave novelty… which is why we scroll for hours and are always looking for the latest Netflix show.

But the drive for something new can be used to enhance your running too.

Trust me, it’s fun as hell to take the trail you've never taken before.

I recently started using Wandrer to help encourage more exploring.

What’s cool is the app is gamified.

You score points for running (or biking) somewhere you haven’t before.

There are leaderboards and you can drill down and see how much of any given geographic area (from continent to country to town) that you’ve explored.

(I was surprised to see that I’ve covered 42% of my hometown)

You can also see where other people are running for inspiration.

And it connects to Strava, showing when you’ve explored new terrain.

So get out there and get explore! But just make sure you have a watch with a map or your smartphone or some other map so you can find your way back if you do get lost.

P.S.

Exploration a great way to make your running more fun.

But if you're looking for other ways to spice up your running routine, check out this post:

Welcome to GO FOR A RUN, the newsletter that’ll never judge you (for wearing headphones on a run). I’m no purist. To be honest, purists annoy me. You can run outside OR on a treadmill. You can run barefoot OR in whatever shoes you like You can run in the city, the woods, the mountains… wherever you want. I’m even okay if you choose not to run if you get your exercise somehow else. All good with me. And if you want to listen to something while running, go ahead and do so. Dare I say I even...

Welcome to GO FOR A RUN, the newsletter that keeps coming back. Last week, I had COVID... for the first time. It sucked. As I lay in bed for days, barely able to move, the thought of running made me even more sick to my stomach. But I survived, and as soon as I started to feel better, I began to think about my return to training. After a week of isolation in my bedroom, I was itching to get outside and hit the trails. I wanted to bust out of the gates at full speed. But that would be a big...

On October 14th and 15th of last year, I ran 100 miles. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
